Gaming with Netbooks: FlatOut 2 with Widescreen Fix
FlatOut 2 is one of my favorite racing games. It brings to the table what its predecessor cannot: breakneck speeds, reckless racing, and epic collisions that won't knock you out of a race instantly. FO2 is so much more fun as a result; while FlatOut was all about controlled, technical racing, its sequel adds the element of speed. There's just one problem. FO2 is a great-looking game, but the price is huge. FlatOut's performance on Cedar Trail was poor to begin with, but FlatOut 2's is even worse. If you cross the 24 fps mark, consider yourself lucky. Most of the time you'll be hovering around 15 or even 12, depending on the settings and resolution. If you have a decent netbook (basically anything without Intel GMA as the main GPU), be prepared for one heckuva ride. If not, turn your attentions elsewhere. This game won't satisfy you.
