Gaming with Netbooks: Twisted Metal 2
Twisted Metal 2 was the most successful title in the franchise. For the PlayStation. The Windows version flopped and disappeared from stores shortly after; something about poor marketing. Fortunately, I was able to acquire a copy of the game and install it without issue. The game is lots of fun, but does have some annoying issues. The framerate is locked at 21 fps but can sometimes drop to the single digits with lots of action and particles flying around the screen. The background music will play until the current track is over, then suddenly stop until you either die/respawn or complete the level. The stages don't have as much detail as the PlayStation version's, causing the game to have a barren and empty feeling to it, and the controls are tricky to master. If you can handle all of these little flaws, TM2 delivers compelling car-crushing carnage without having to resort to PS1 emulation.
