Gargoyle's Pest - Episode 2: Give Up The Ghost... And The Goblin

Perhaps I jinxed myself when I mentioned Chakan: The Forever Man last time. For anyone expecting even the bad ending here, I'll save you two and a half fruitless hours of watching me metaphorically slam my skull into a brick wall repeatedly. But if you're into watching a masochist effectively try and fail to beat a single level countless times, then have I got a video for you!
The worst part about it is that I essentially managed to master the level itself. It was just the boss fight at the end that kept tripping me up. Hell, I only managed to kill one of them one time. But honestly, considering the sheer amount of cheating that damn thing does, I'm shocked that I managed to beat one in the previous level. But truth be told, I did use a different weapon to get through that first fight. Unfortunately, that trick wouldn't have worked out a second time, since you need the shield to make it to the final boss on both loops... and the thought of being sent back to the fifth level fills me with existential dread.
In the end, I just gave up. It's disappointing, but it's the reality of the situation. I suppose I could've used save states to keep sending me straight to the boss fight. But where's the fun in that? I did offer to switch over to a different version -- I'm still wondering if the GBC version has any improvements over the NES version -- but KI was getting bored with seeing Ghosts 'n Goblins... and honestly, I'm sick of playing it too.
So, in order to keep this series at three games beaten, I'm going to be pivoting briefly. Instead of trying to beat Ghosts 'n Goblins again, I'll be playing the NES spin-off, Gargoyle's Quest II. I actually played the original on the 3DS's Virtual Console ages ago... and truthfully, I did want to play GQ2 before moving onto the "main event" of that particular side-series, so to speak. Granted, that does scutter some plans I had for next year -- but fortunately, I think I've come to a suitable compromise. You'll just have to wait and see, though.
