Well, talk about a reversal of fortunes. This was probably one of the craziest streams I've done in quite some time. I wish I could say that beating a game twice on two different difficulty settings was unprecedented... but sadly, Lords of Thunder beat it to the punch last year.

Things started out incredibly hairy. Two botched attempts on the game's default difficulty setting were snuffed out in minutes by the second level... and the fact that Vectorman apparently offers its players nothing in the way of continues. I decided that if I wanted to show any of the game at all, I'd have to retreat to "Lame" Mode -- which honestly felt way more balanced, considering how it extends your default health by one and starts you off with two more extra lives. The damage on standard enemies felt more manageable too. In the end, I decided that Vectorman was probably just another in the long list of 16-bit games that was afflicted with "Blockbuster difficulty". The fact that the easiest difficulty even gave players the opportunity to play the entire game, without cutting off any levels, only serves to solidify that theory.

But considering how quickly I finished that run, KI requested that I give "Wicked" Mode one more try. And well, you can see for yourself how that turned out. KI assured me that the entire purpose of Easy Mode was to practice for the real deal... and that ended up being the case. I just have to wonder what limitations "Insane" mode puts on you. Considering how things went from Lame to Wicked, would that mean only 3 units of health from the start and NO extra lives? Insane, indeed.

I've been told that among the few people who played it, Vectorman 2 is generally considered a step-up from the predecessor. Dari especially made that clear to me last night. I'll just have to see for myself next time.
