Kotaku has reported than an anonymous email was sent to the Game Developers Choice Awards, saying that a bomb would be detonated if the feminist game critic Anita Sarkeesian won an award. Event management said that the threat was sent to 25 organisers several hours before Sarkeesian was set to be presented with the ‘Ambassador Award’.

Of course, no bomb was found and the audience was not told about the threat. The GDC organisers contacted the San Francisco Police Department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Division, who found nothing. Sarkeesian was aware of the sitiation. She said:

“I decided to go on stage and accept the award anyway, but it was a nerve-wracking evening to say the least. Despite the seriousness of the situation, a group of obsessive cyberstalkers have started a witch hunt against me attempting to prove some sort of paranoid conspiracy theory about fabricated threats. There are ongoing investigations in multiple municipalities regarding death threats targeting me and my family.”

It’s odd that this has only just come out now, but thankfully everyone is safe. If people could stop making bomb threats, that’d be super.
