Destiny, the new MMO-FPS from Bungie, has broken streaming records on Twitch. Apparently, during Destiny’s launch week, more people watched other people play the game on Twitch than any other console game released in 2014. Twitch commented by saying:
“To date, Destiny is the biggest console game launch of the year on Twitch. Our passionate community of broadcasters attracted more than 5 million unique viewers in the first week.”
Fans watched nearly 240 million minutes of Destiny in that first week, and more broadly Destiny-related stuff attracted 240 million views in total.

A group called the American Enterprise Institute has published a video regarding sexism in videogames, basically saying it doesn’t exist. I’m dramatically paraphrasing, of course, but Resident scholar Christina Hoff-Sommers did say in the video that the controversy surrounding sexism in games has been created by “gender police” or – my personal favourite line – “hipsters with degrees in cultural studies”.
Christina Hoff-Sommers mentioned that she thinks critics do “a lot of cherry-picking and they ignore the fact that the world of gaming has become inclusive.” She did also make reference to critics being concerned with females being portrayed as damsels in distress or sex objects, and she did refer to Anita Sarkeesian’s YouTube series that covers these topics on the Feminist Frequency YouTube channel.
