Destiny, the new MMO-FPS from Bungie, has broken streaming records on Twitch. Apparently, during Destiny’s launch week, more people watched other people play the game on Twitch than any other console game released in 2014. Twitch commented by saying:

“To date, Destiny is the biggest console game launch of the year on Twitch. Our passionate community of broadcasters attracted more than 5 million unique viewers in the first week.”

Fans watched nearly 240 million minutes of Destiny in that first week, and more broadly Destiny-related stuff attracted 240 million views in total.

Sony had its most successful week of PlayStation 4 sales in the UK the same week that Destiny launched. Apparently sales were up 300 percent that week and while no actual sales numbers have been published, MCV – an industry publication – said that Sony doubled Xbox One numbers during the seven-day period. This could be because most of the advertising for Destiny only featured Sony branding, because of some kind of branding deal. Sony have also said that they’re treating Destiny as a first party title, even though it is also available on the Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Speaking of which, the Xbox 360 version is reported to have outsold the PS3 version.

Now, if Destiny could just stop achieving things, that’d be great. I am getting super sick of talking about how damn amazing everyone thinks Destiny is – seriously Destiny, you don’t have to rub it in everyone’s faces. We get it. You’ve been super successful your entire life. Good for you, brag harder.
