This is a playthrough of the Sega Genesis version of Ghouls 'n Ghosts, played in Professional mode. I could have played the Arcade version of this instead, but this is the version I remembered the most as I played this a lot back then and still nowadays.

Originally I was gonna post my Twitch playthrough of this, but I ultimately decided to re-do it from scratch because I wanted to.

Opinions:
Ghouls 'n Ghosts is definitely my personal favorite of the GNG series, and one of my favorites in general. The game keeps the same classic sidescrolling gameplay that made its predecessor (Ghosts 'n Goblins) beloved by many, while fixing flaws that the previous game had. Other than the fact you have to repeat the same levels twice (rather than them actually make new ones), it improves on pretty much everything else.

The play control is better here as it feels more fluent here, even the jumping just feels better here (despite still being uncontrollable in the air). The game also adds the ability to shoot up and down, which really helps a lot in certain situations and really makes a lot of sequences in this game a lot easier and more fair here.

As for the difficulty, it still can be a pretty difficult game. However unlike the previous game, the game feels more challenging hard than BS hard. Yes, it does have some parts that can throw people off (ex: the tongue platforms in level 3), but because of a number of things: the level layouts are overall better, the enemies are not as obnoxious here, the more useful weapons and the better play control and its new additions like the more common treasure chests and the Golden Magic Armor help make it less of a frustrating experience.

That's my opinion of this game in general: it still is an excellent game that still remains highly playable to this day (at least for me anyways). The Sega Genesis port was for the most part pretty good. Aside from a few downgrades in things like music, graphics, and the lack of the two introduction screens (and the lack of names when showing off the enemies, bosses, and characters in the ending), the most important fact was that the gameplay was pretty much intact which what really mattered. While its not the best port of the game, this is still a great way to play it nonetheless.
