The third part of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 playthrough, where I play as Knuckles. Note that this is the lock-on version of Sonic 2 (aka Sonic 2 & Knuckles) instead of the original.

Not much has changed from the normal Sonic 2, other than some slight differences in the level layouts, the amount of rings to collect inside the special stages are different, and that Knuckles acts the same way as he did in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. He still has his ability to glide and climb on walls, and the fact that he's a little slower than Sonic and Tails, and he jumps a bit lower than those two as well.

Also, there are two improvements over the original Sonic 2. Unlike the original where you simply just jump to turn Super, you press the jump button while in the air. This does lead to another problem though as you can't glide when you're at your normal state with 50 rings or above. Also, the rings you have upon getting into the special stages will remain instead of losing all of your rings, making it less of a pain to keep constantly going back to an early part of the stage to collect 50 rings or above.

As for the difficulty, it is a bit easier in the special stages due to the lower ring count than playing as either Sonic or Tails alone. The levels and the bosses for the most part are the same in terms of difficulty, though the final boss at Death Egg is a bit more difficult due to the shorter jump height. Personally unless you're good at timing your jumps to hit him, I only recommend hitting him when he's landing as trying to hit him when he's walking or standing is hard, as more often than not, you'll hit his spiked hands and die.
