My Description:

This Let's Play of "Ys: The Oath in Felghana" is on Nightmare difficulty, albeit with higher levels and/or equipment than time attack conditions. Unlike previous Ys let's plays, I voiced over successful boss attempts because of the concentration required to win, meaning I can't come up with commentary on the fly. The videos will also show my first attempt for every boss, just to show how much I improved from my first attempt to my successful attempt.

When redheaded thrill-seeker Adol Christin and his eternal blue-haired companion Dogi make an unannounced visit to Dogi's homeland of Felghana after an eight-year absence, it quickly becomes apparent that things have changed dramatically. Hordes of violent monsters roam the outskirts of town, a long-dormant volcano has suddenly sprung back to life and the new lord of the land has begun mercilessly and inexplicably extorting money from its long-suffering citizens. Time to explore the Icebound Caves of Elderm Mountains. Dogi will give Adol the Terra Bracelet, which is pretty much the closest thing we'll get to Flash Guard in this game. It can also be used to break certain obstacles and walls, meaning we can backtrack to some previous areas to get more loot.

At first, the boss will mainly use biting attacks if you get too close, as well as a blizzard move that blows all ice stalagmites towards the screen. While its feet can be damaged to stun it, some attack phases like the blizzard and when it takes flight will cause it to ignore damage to its feet, meaning you can't interrupt it. Another nasty move is when it grabs Adol with its mouth and send him plummeting into a pit full of rocks that look like dragon jaws. To survive, you need to use earth magic to absorb the impact of the rocks. Also, even though you can hit it with earth guard when it tries to grab you, it won't actually register as damage to its HP bar, which really irks me.

For your efforts, you get the Light Statue.

Afterwards, Chester will intercept you, reveal his true intentions, stab Dogi, and take the statues.
