Go! Go! PogoGirl: Part 1: Intro & Spring 1 (Perfect Run)
Like Pizza Tower, I was introduced to this game through the Sonic Amateur Games Expo, or SAGE for short.
That expo has really grown from just showing off Sonic fangames and hacks. It's now an important lifeline for non-Sonic indie games and the like to get a chance to show themselves to an open audience.
This game has been one of such games, and even at that, its developer was inspired by those games and several others from the Sega Genesis. I can really feel that here.
----------
PogoGirl has you playing as the cute titular PogoGirl, herself. She's a strong competitor of the Pogo Show. However, someone snuck inside her house and stole her most prized Pogo Stick!
So then PogoGirl took out another Pogo Stick she had to chase after this sneaky thief. This cute little adventure is about how all of your actions (even impossible ones like swimming) are ALL done by the hopping and bouncing with your pogo stick!
In short, this game is “Cute girl has cute boing-boing adventure!”
----------
All of your movement in this game is with a pogo stick. If you want to stop bouncing for a moment, just hold Down, though holding Down for a moment will let PogoGirl charge a Super Jump.
While in the air, she can do a Spin Attack that hits enemies and manipulates certain objects. You can also use this as a slight double jump.
Charging a Super can also be done in the air. If you release the charge right when you land, you'll pull of an Ultra Jump that has PogoGirl twirl with a high jump at the same time.
PogoGirl can only take one hit, but there will be shields to take the hit for you and checkpoints to respawn from beyond the very beginning of the stage.
----------
There are two kinds of Gems to collect in these levels:
- There are 100 Green Gems per level. They're usually out in the open.
- Each level also has 3 Red Gems. They tend to be more hidden.
My main focus of this playthrough is making sure I get a Perfect Run in each level. That means get all 100 Green Gems, get all 3 Red Gems, and also finish the level without dying even once. The gold medals you get at the end of each level are for each of these tasks.
Each "World" is themed after one of the four seasons. The first "World" is based in Spring.
