A chronicle of despair and anguish that took place just a few blocks away from River Styx, practically on Hades' doorstep.

As you know, you get regenerating magic during the Army of Sparta tutorial fight. I figured such a power would be really useful to have early in a NG run, so I tried some crazy things to make this potential trick reality.

A cutscene starts when you approach Hades' Palace, during which a barred iron gate rises up. I figured that if you kept moving during the cutscene you might end up past the gate before it rises up - the same way some skips work in Ascension. For this purpose I transported a Sentry to Hades Palace yard to do the dash attack with it during the cutscene... but the distance was just barely too long to get past the iron gate, so this attempt ended in a bitter failure.

(If it had worked, the trick would've likely been Chaos-mode, New Game only since otherwise the Sentry dies before you reach the Hades Palace yard with it.)

After that I noticed that if you hit the legs off the Sentry, its A.I. glitches up and it starts heading to the wrong direction. Upon retry, the Sentry has grown its legs back. So you can basically have a healthy enemy behind the iron gate as the fight starts. But unfortunately displaced grab mini-games weren't the answer to this problem either.

(To mention, it's not possible to CG enemies past walls.)

(Not on the vid, but I also tried to have the crawling foe push Kratos beyond the gate during the cutscene since it moves in a predictable way towards the gate. During a cutscene enemies CAN push Kratos to a direction, but in this instance the foe moved too slowly for this idea to have much hope.)

Before resorting to even more desperate measures, I took the time to actually test the skip with swimming glitch to see if it can fundamentally ever work. Unfortunately the mere act of using swimming glitch in the AoS tutorial fight is problematic to say the least. Kratos freezes in place after the fight intro, so you have to retry from checkpoint. And upon retry Kratos reverts back to the weakened swimming state! So to escape, you had to have swim dashed beyond the barred gate, and then be at a correct height to swim out of the rope hole to freedom. Then dare the awful camera to get back to grapple points to break out of the weakened swimming. Now you are finally free to explore...

A brief swim demonstrates two things: 1, Kratos indeed has escaped the fight with Regen Magic with him. And 2, that the area leading to Judges is not even loaded during the tutorial fight. The only way to progress from this point is to instead load Hades' Palace early! Which makes early chain break impossible! And since you can only do the swimming glitch on NG+, what the hell do you even need regen magic for! Maybe in some very specialized category... but yeah.

Regen Magic ends once you finish the tutorial fight, however much later in the game that may be. After the fight Hades speaks (even if you killed him already) and the game points you to the path to Judges. Unfortunately the Judges path doesn't actually load again after this. Some rope fighting enemies load, only to die a moment later, but the entire area remains unloaded.

In short, you can take Regen Magic with you from this fight, but only on NG+ - at least until a way to do early swimming glitch on NG is found - and the trick is mutually exclusive with early chain break. So, somewhat wasted potential.

The Quest for early Regen Magic contains examples of the following tropes:

* Back From The Dead: Hades
* Bittersweet Ending
* Boring Invincible Hero: literally Kratos because of NG+ glitch.
* Determinator: me.
* Good Bad Bugs
* Real Life Writes the Plot
* Sequence Breaking
