Just when I thought that the game didn't include a battle debug, I was wrong.

While messing around with Grandia 3's debug, I noticed that you have to oddly enough, operate the debug with the second controller. Since the battle system for 2 and 3 are very similar, I started to wonder if it was the same for Grandia 2. Sure enough, I was right! And it's very similar to Grandia 3's battle debug as well!

You can change the framerate while in battle from 30 to 60. I think they actually made 60 the default framerate for the PS2 version, but since that game's version of the debugger sucks ass, this one is more affective. You can also view the textures from within the game, unlike Grandia 3 (which doesn't work). You can move the camera, change character positions, increase your level/hp/mp/sp etcetc from within the battle, pause the battle, change the lighting of the characters and environment, view the music/sound test, view some other misc information, view collision, and even watch the special attack movies from within the game! There's also some UNUSED stuff, like these weird vertical slice/drunk effects. And even a Radar that helps you track where the enemies are, which is pointless. For a moment, I thought that you change what characters and enemies were on the battle field in real time, but I don't think you can (maybe you can, but you need to do something stupid, probably). If you could change the characters and enemies that appear, you could also change the battle field environment itself (I wonder if there's any unused stuff?). Overall, very neat stuff for everyone.

Of course there are some things that don't seem to work anymore, like the MAGIC or whatever stuff. Much like Grandia 3, there seems to some features which are disabled in some way that just don't work anymore. Luckily, nothing seems to crash the game. I only seemed to have crashed the game once, and that was when I had the battle debug on after the battle ended (without turning off the field debug stuff while in game as well). But other than that, it's very solid!

As for cheats, much like Grandia 3, there's a stupid feature which appears to be a way of not dying for the player, but it's really a setting for not dying for the enemy! As you can see towards the end (my favorite part of the whole video, heh), the enemies were too strong for Ryudo to kill. So luckily there's a button combo that can end the battle prematurely and you can still collect all the exp/sp/and crap!

That's basically it for this debug, and perhaps this game in particular. But I was very happy to find it. Like I said in my other Grandia 2 debug video, you have to somehow find a way to create a ISO with the debug stuff in the configuration files enabled without corrupting your ISO. I added a few details in my previous video. You need two controllers, one for controlling the game and the other for controlling the debug. You need to press A or Y to turn on the debug, and you can press Start to pause the debug and go frame by frame, all with the second controller. It's a little self explanatory, so you should have no problem using it.

Unfortunately, I made this discovery quick and didn't have time to really go into it in depth or improve the recording conditions, etc. So as a result, I recorded the game in windowed mode with FRAPS using the latest revision of nullDC, so no 1080p this time. Then, I converted the raw video to H.264/MKV, blablbalba you know the drill. Also, there's a lot of slow down here and there, but it's alright.

Well anyway, thanks for watching. I still need to look at Grandia 3 some more (there's a config file in the game with some options erased but still recognized by the game's main executable, so it might be possible to get the same stuff as Grandia 2's debug with just a little bit of elbow grease, etc), and when I do I'll make the next video ASAP. But until then, enjoy these videos. lol
