Part 2 of 3

I've been wanting to play this game with kaillera for YEARS and have never been able to do it up until now. For this very special game night, I decided to play my all time favorites - MOONWALKER.

I remember as if it were yesterday. The last public working version of Mame w/ kaillera would always crash up until a certain point. Multiple versions of later editions of Mame would often have the kaillera netplay broken entirely. But thanks to 0.134u4, it's all a reality. Besides the problems with Mame, there was also the problem of finding people who would actually give a shit. People would participate and have really bad connections, people would say they wanted to play but they mysteriously would disappear, etc. But finally - I got the opportunity to play this game last night with a few friends.

For recording, we decided to try something different for once. Normally we would record the game with FRAPS as we were playing the game, which would lag the connection for some reason thus resulting in desync, etc. In the latest version of open_kaillera (the one with the master server support) - there's support for recording button combinations and chat logs to replicate the netplay session without all the lag that was encountered during gameplay. So basically, we would run through the game with this feature on, then I could go back with FRAPS open and record the replay.

Now let's talk about this session in general:
List of players (Michael Jacksons):
White - Me
Red - Lee
Black - Sabin

Now to start with, this wasn't a perfect session. We had a rough start, since Sabin decided to go somewhere, it was just Lee and I. Once Sabin showed up, it was pretty much straight forward from there. The only inconsistency was the lag, which was terrible in some parts (mostly in the parts where there were a lot of enemies). The good thing was that we didn't desync. The bad thing though, was that Lee dropped a packet (which I have never seen before ever), which resulted him in losing control of his character - but he could still watch the game for some reason. When that happened, the game was perfect without any lag at all. But we had to finish with just Sabin and I, so that's why I don't consider it a successful run. But at least this was our best run of the game - and probably the only one that we might ever have to complete the entire game from start to finish.

Now like I said in the previous video, I tried my best to make sure that the video quality for this video was THE BEST EVER. And I'm pretty sure I accomplished that. I encoded this video from raw FRAPS recordings to MP4/H.264/AAC - the video was at 9600kbps (the highest I could go up to), the audio was 48000hz at 260kbps (the highest, same deal). I left the original size of the video, as well as the framerate. But Youtube might do something with these after everything's been processed, but keep in mind that the finished version looked very good. You can actually read the chat logs now! Yay!

I hope you enjoy this video, and let's hope that PETR GETS HIS PC BACK SO WE CAN PLAY 4 PLAYER GAMES. I'm a little reluctant to play D&D with MAME, since we never seem to complete the game without desyncing once even with just two players, and we just don't seem to have enough people interested in playing around with MAME anymore. I don't know what the next video might be (it might be another debug video, who knows), but if petr doesn't come back soon, I'll try to find another 3 player arcade game to play with the same crew as in this video. But until then, at least this one was interesting.

In case you're impatient, you can get the replay file for MAME OPEN KAILLERA here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38216/moonwalker6-11-10-leesabinknux-kailleramame.zip

You need to create a folder called "recordings" in your MAMEPPK0.134u4 folder and put the file in the zip in that folder. Then you need to have the version of open_kaillera that has support for master servers (it's like 120kb). Make sure you have Moonwalker, refreshed and in your game's list, and go click the drop down box and click 3. Playback (or something like that) and this recording should be there. Please don't bother me in the comments if you can't get it to work, you have this Youtube video, you should feel grateful.

Well, that's basically it. I'll try to make things more interesting and better looking as time goes on. I'll obviously slip up along the way (like my last video, yeah - shut up), but at least I'd be pushing videos out more often than usual - since it's the summer, you know (go tell ur mom that petr so she can give u back UR COMPUTER that U BOUGHT).
