Growlanser IV PSP Undub Wayfarer of Time Part 1
Video Timeline:
Story Battle #1= 16:08 to 19:40
Story Battle #2= 26:39 to 29:05
FMV #1= 32:44 to 34:56 (subbed with official English translation)
At 21:15ish, I accidentally cut off Remus' line. He says, "Kono te de" at the end. Sorry, the screen didn't scroll the way I was expecting.
This is a playthrough of the undubbed PSP version of Growlanser IV (known as Wayfarer of Time in the west, and Over Reloaded in the east). For those of you who don't know, an undub generally refers to the English version of a game which has had the original Japanese voice acting patched back in (or whatever the official hacking terminology is). The English version was unvoiced for the most part and I've already played through it several times, so I got curious and decided to give this a try.
This is mostly a straight Let's Play style playthrough with some notable exceptions. First, I added in how decisions affect your main character's personality; this info was taken from the official Japanese strategy guide, so it should be accurate. Here's an explanation for the abbreviations that I use in the video:
KIND=Kindness...the higher this value, the nicer a person you are. If this value is low, you're a jerk.
OBED=Obedience...the higher this value, the more compliant you are (i.e. you're a floormat). If it's low, then you're more rebellious.
LEAD=Leadership...the higher this value, the more likely you are to take control of a situation (i.e. take action, lead the conversation, etc.). If this's low, you're the lazy, whiny type and suffer from bystander apathy.
CALM=Calmness...the higher this is, the more level-headed you are. If this is value is low, then you're a hothead.
WIS=Wisdom...people with high wisdom make better decisions and generally sound, you know, smart. If this is low, people'll think you're a dumbass.
VIRT=Virtue...this one's related to morals. If your virtue is high, you're the honest, upstanding type. If it's low, then you're the trolling/sadistic/evil type.
CONF=Self-Confidence...if this is high, then you're comfortable with your decisions, abilities, whatever. If it's low, then you're the type that's constantly apologizing for being alive.
MEN=attraction to other males...if this's high, then it's easier to form close bonds with your male companions. If this's low, then you might have trouble getting the guy endings.
WOMEN=attraction to women...high means you're a skirtchaser. Low means that you don't like Satoshi Urushihara's art style (just kidding!).
N/C=No change...in other words, the answer doesn't affect your personality.
There are some decisions that also affect your affinity with a particular person; in that case, you'll see the person's name instead of my silly abbreviations along with a plus or minus value.
Second, I also added in the criteria necessary to get Mission Completes as well as Game Over conditions (I apologize in advance if I don't actually get the Mission Complete though...story battle #3 is a b*tch). I checked some of the guides on Gamefaqs and I noticed that there is apparently some confusion about this, so voila!
Third, I roughly translated the battle dialogue. For the menu voices, I only translated the first couple of times you hear it per character; after that, you're on your own (trust me, it gets very old very fast, especially once I get my familiar -_-). The lines are really generic for the most part, so I may start taking the Working Designs approach if I keep getting the same quotes (i.e. taking major liberties with all the non-important "Arghs" and "Aaauuughs").
And lastly, I won't be talking. Period. You're welcome. All notes will either be via on-screen text or in the video description.
I'll also mention that I'm recording off a real PSP instead of an emulator, so the picture quality is going to be a bit low. I'm not a big fan of emulation, plus I'm experimenting with my capture card using this so that it'll be easier for me to record other PSP footage in the future. *coughRebirthandDestiny2cough*
And just for the record, I own a legal copy of the English version of this game (and the Japanese version too, actually). Don't get me started on the assholes who pirated the undub in favor of supporting the English release because they didn't understand what a niche series is.
