GTA V Tips and Tricks: Changing Lusters and Rims Color on Shop or Mission Boats
In this Video, I show how to change the Lusters and Rims Color on Shop or Mission Boats, also known as the "Boat Luster Glitch."
To put it shortly, you have to obtain a Boat on which this Glitch will work and sit inside it, switch Characters and then switch back. Your original Boat will get a Random Luster and Rims Color from Traffic, BUT the Primary and Secondary Body Colors will be kept the SAME! This brings to some interesting results.
It's not really a useful Glitch, but it actually allows you to get more different Special Boats. Only the Special Boats from Missions and Black Shop Boats (Boats bought from the in-game Internet) will work! Shop Boats will have all four Color Entries as "Metallic Black" on Unpatched Old Gen, while on all other Versions it will be the same, except the Rims Color will be "Alloy."
List of Special Boats on which this Glitch will work:
*EC Blue Seashark (Lustered/EC Blue Seashark) - Can get the following Lusters: Metallic Race Yellow, Metallic Blue Silver, Metallic Black, Metallic Torino Red, Metallic White, Metallic Dark Blue, also the Rims Color will be changed to Alloy
*EC Green Seashark (Lustered/EC Green Seashark) - Can get the following Lusters: Metallic Race Yellow, Metallic Blue Silver, Metallic Black, Metallic Torino Red, Metallic White, Metallic Dark Blue, also the Rims Color will be changed to Alloy
*EC Red Seashark (Lustered/EC Red Seashark) - Can get the following Lusters: Metallic Race Yellow, Metallic Blue Silver, Metallic Black, Metallic Torino Red, Metallic White, Metallic Dark Blue, also the Rims Color will be changed to Alloy
*EC Black and Red Dinghy2 with EC2 Black Rims (EC Black and Red Dinghy2) - The Worn White Luster will be changed to Metallic Stone Silver. The Metallic Black Rims will be changed to Alloy.
*UP/PP Tropic - Can get the following Lusters: Metallic Black (spawns 99% of the time), Metallic Shadow Silver, Metallic Silver. It's the same as the Shop Tropic now (thus why "Lustered" is not Special on it), except it's still Special for its UP/PP Properties.
*Lustered/EC Black Dinghy - The Luster might change between Metallic Stone Silver or Metallic Black. At the end of the day, it's the same Boat, have one Luster means you have both of them practically.
Note that the UP/PP Tropic from Michael's Switch Scene during Exile doesn't work for this Glitch. The UP/PP Tropic from Reuniting the Family works, but it's not "Lustered" since Color-wise it's completely the same as the Black Tropic from the Internet Shops.
List of Black Shop Boats on which this Glitch works:
*Marquis - Luster will be changed to Metallic White. Rims will be Alloy.
*Squalo - Luster will be changed to: Metallic Black, Metallic Frost White, Metallic Blue Silver, Metallic White. Rims will be Alloy.
*Seashark - Luster will be changed to: Metallic Race Yellow, Metallic Blue Silver, Metallic Black, Metallic Torino Red, Metallic White, Metallic Dark Blue. Rims will be Alloy.
*Tropic - Luster will be changed to: Metallic Black (spawns 99% of the time), Metallic Shadow Silver, Metallic Silver. Rims will be Alloy.
*Jetmax - Luster will be changed to: Metallic Black (spawns 99% of the time), Metallic Dark Silver, Metallid Shadow Silver. Rims will be Alloy.
*Speeder (Patched Old Gen and New Gen ONLY) - Luster will be changed to: Metallic Black (spawns 99% of the time), Metallic Dark Silver, Metallid Shadow Silver. Rims will stay as Alloy.
*Toro (Patched Old Gen and New Gen ONLY) - Luster will be changed to Metallic Dark Silver. Interestingly, the Rims will be changed to Metallic Black (as the original Shop variant has Alloy Rims).
This Glitch won't work on the bought Kraken (New Gen ONLY), and on the Suntrap (since the Shop Suntrap is a Traffic Default).
For the Special Boats, it's best to keep them like how they were originally in the Mission! If you convert them to the Traffic Lusters/Rims, then you won't be able to change back.
Once you obtain the original Boat, immediately go to the Marina and save it, without switching Characters! If you really need to trade Boats, then do it like in this example: Save it at the Marina as F, EXIT the Boat, switch to M and go to the Marina, then enter the Boat that you've stored as the F (while F is still there), and then enter store it as M nearby. This won't change the Luster on the Boat!
