Short clip of when I earned the Platinum Trophy in Guacamelee! on Playstation 3. Read more...

There has been quite a bit of buzz about this game since it's release not long ago. I kept hearing good things. Browsing through the SEN store I came across if as a cross-buy for a very reasonable price and thought "Why not?", haha. The story won't be winning any awards but, it was fun and had some humor mixed in to keep it light.

The graphics were pretty good for its style and the soundtrack was fitting. The controls in this were pretty tight and made the combat fun. I didn't think the game was good enough to merit multiple playthroughs but, unfortunately, you will have to play through a 2nd time (on Hard) for the platinum. The combat got pretty boring after about 1/3 of the way through as you, at that point, had been introduced to all the different enemy types available (omitting bosses, of course); this kept the game's difficulty down. Most of the adventure battles can be skipped completely however, you will have to finish the arenas (multiple found in each level).

The platforming in this game is where the developers spent some serious thought and time. There are some very tricky platforming sections and odd ways of getting from point A to B. Going for a couple of those Orbs made my want to die. Saw blade "forest" and disappearing platforms anybody? :shakefist: Fortunately, though, if you decide to collect everything your second time through, it seemed much easier (even on the harder difficulty). This ties pretty directly into the collectibles in the game... there were a ton of chests and 6 orbs. Many of these will need to be obtained after acquiring a special ability from the goat god guy.

Overall i'm glad I picked this up. While it was tougher than I expected it would be, I had fun and a mostly easy time. I'd recommend the game on the Vita but, can't comment on how it plays on the PS3 as I never used the cross-save feature. Good luck and enjoy this one if you decide to pick it up :)

Platinum Difficulty: 4/10
Overall Enjoyment: 6/10
