Short clip of when I earned the Platinum Trophy in Payday 2 on Playstation 3. Read more...

I saved a simple trophy (Weapon Collector; where you must "Own 18 weapons.") for last so I could record it on my iPhone.

This game had so much promise. The features that were boasted pre-release sounded fantastic. New skill trees, customizable weapons, random events, many heists, :blah: Turns out it was just a ton of hype. While all those things hold true, it just didn't live up to what I had imagined.

Lighting
I can't stand the fact that this game is so dark. I cranked up my brightness settings and still can't see a lot of the game. Enemies blend into the darkness so you feel like you are being shot by phantoms. The game is just too dark.

The Enemies
All the enemies lack flavor. In the original game, you could easily tell who you were up against and the different enemies were very distinguishable (iconic even). The only enemy that is truly distinguishable now is the Shield guys. In addition to their lack of "flavor", the vast majority of enemies now wear ultra-heavy armor and require much more effort to kill them off.

The Heists
There are 10 heists (3 of which run over multiple days) in the base game. This definitely trumps the original 6 from the 1st game however, the problem with the heists, IMO, is they are forgettable in Payday 2. Until you level up far enough to purchase the required skills to run stealth, you are basically forced into completing objectives through non-stop assault waves for each of the heists. Even though the scenery is different (mostly) in each of the heists, the gameplay is the same. Attempt to "stealth", get caught, instant assault wave starts and lasts for 3 minutes, assault wave ends and almost immediately begins again... repeat until your drill finishes, then drill the next door, then the safe,... the game is downright terrible when you start out and monotonous by the time you've leveled up.

There are a few heists that are pretty pointless as well... Mallcrasher, Ukranian Job (same as Jewelry Heist with a different objective), all the Escapes - These jobs are interesting for the fact that they are adding a pseudo-story element to the game but, in reality, they are just filler jobs on a very simple map that run roughly 5 minutes each. There's no real point to them and it's the same old fight off assault waves until a timer runs down and "escape".

Crime.net
While a cool concept and great for the casual gamer that just goes with the flow, this feature is unbelievably annoying. If you want to run a specific job (whether for a trophy or just for fun) you could end up waiting 15 minutes for it to pop up in the Crime.net screen. WTF? There should have been filters that you could search for specific types of jobs... or something.

Trophy Requirements
The trophy list is much easier in this installment. The only thing that makes them "difficult" at all is the pure randomness of the game (oh, and the bullshit "host only" trophies). The trophy list looks like it was built for high-level players. You will probably struggle to earn the trophies before reaching level 20. The grind to reach level 100 is absolutely unnecessary.

Overall this was just an okay co-op game for me.
