Production on next summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has begun and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed! Marvel’s fearsome fivesome are back and they’re adding a few new faces to the group. Marvel has announced that production on next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has officially begun production in Atlanta for a May 5th, 2017 release and with the announcement comes some casting confirmations. While plot details are mostly being kept under wraps, we do know the film will involve Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord’s) search for the mystery behind his true parentage. While we don’t know exactly yet who his father is, we do know he will be played by the previously rumored Kurt Russell. Russell will join original stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista along with the voices of Vin Diesel as “Groot” and Bradley Cooper as “Rocket”. From the look of the first official photo, we should expect to once again see Baby Groot in action, at least for part of the film. As for the rest of the cast, Michael Rooker is back as “Yondu”, Sean Gunn returns as “Kraglin”, Karen Gillan will once again play “Nebula” and Glenn Close will return as “Nova Prime”. New cast members in addition to Kurt Russell include Old Boy’s Pom Klementieff who will play new Guardians member “Mantis”, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Everest’s Elizabeth Debicki joins the cast in an as yet unknown role as does The Knick’s Chris Sullivan. Director James Gunn will once again be behind the camera and took to his Facebook page to say quote, “My favorite movie as a small child was The Strongest Man in the World, so I'm glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and, yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined. The last few days around here with him and our other new cast members…have been some of the best of my life. I never thought anyone was missing from our island of misfit toys, but now that these folks are here there feels like there was.” Gunn also promised lots of more surprises in the coming months, but for now, what do you think of the new cast members and any guess of who Kurt Russell and the others are playing?
