The writers of the hit Deadpool are talking about the sequel and we’ve got the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed! How much will Deadpool’s success affect the sequel? According to the writers, not much. While we have yet to get an official announcement from the studio, a Deadpool sequel is all but assured and writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recently sat down with Collider to share some thoughts. Before we get started, just a quick warning that we could be delving into some things that may be considered spoilers, so if you haven’t seen Deadpool yet, proceed at your own risk. Okay, so if you stuck around for the end credits scene, you’re aware that the plan is to introduce the time-travelling mutant Cable in the sequel, but what exactly does that mean? Thanks to the success of the first film, the sequel will likely get a big increase from its $58 million budget, but according to Wernick, don’t expect the sequel to look that much different from the first film. Wernick explained that they don’t want a $150 million budget to make the next film saying quote, “Deadpool doesn’t lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that’s just not Deadpool. So we’re happy in that little small budget range that they have us in; we don’t wanna blow this next one out.” Which means that we won’t be seeing Deadpool and Cable time-travelling to the future, but instead we’ll see Cable dropped into the world of Deadpool, which Reese described as “reasonably insular, gritty, urban and dark.” As for what they think worked in the first film that they want to bring more of in the sequel, Reese says we should expect more fourth wall breaking, but don’t expect a complicated story with lots of twists. They plan to keep the story simple in order to allow them to have fun with the zaniness of the characters. We should also expect more of the love story between Wade and Vanessa, but as far as the film exploring Vanessa’s own mutant powers, the writers explained that they chose not to introduce her powers from the comics in the first film as they felt it was important to focus on allowing the audience to get to know Deadpool and they also thought it would feel phony that both Wade and Vaness would have latent mutant powers. While we will probably see Vanessa’s powers explored in future films, it may not necessarily happen in the sequel. And finally, as far as adding more X-Men to the roster, Reese says they have a Master List of characters that they could potentially use, but it’s limited thanks to the fact that many of the characters exist in timelines separate from Deadpool and they have to fit within plans for the characters in future films, so don’t expect Professor X or Beast to necessarily show up anytime soon. Of course, when you start tossing in a character that can travel through time, anything is possible. So, what do you think of the initial plans for the sequel? Do you want more fourth wall breaking or did the first film give us the perfect amount? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to check out some of our other favorite fourth wall breaking movies.
