Wolverine 3 Rumored To Be Eyeing R-Rating

Thanks to the success of Deadpool it looks like we could be seeing a lot more R-Rated superhero movies and we have the details right now on Clevver Newsfeed. This is probably around the time Deadpool would look at the camera and say “told ya so!” Thanks to the Merc with a Mouth’s record shattering opening weekend, audiences and Hollywood are abuzz with the prospect of turning out more R-rated superhero flicks. Deadpool was able to harness the energy, charisma, violence, and humor of its origins thanks to creative and original filmmakers who relentlessly campaigned to make the movie they thought fans deserved and now that may have an effect on the future of superhero movies.
In the days since Deadpool released there have been several unofficial rumblings about the ratings for future superhero movies, beginning with the now extra-anticipated X-Force film which would feature Deadpool as a primary team member. Speaking with Collider, Deadpool producer and Fox superhero movie overseer Simon Kinberg said he could certainly see X-Force being rated R as compared to the more dramatic audience friendly PG-13 X-Men movies that have come before. This of course is just Kinberg speaking his thoughts on what he COULD see happening as no official decision has been made on that film. Another movie that Fox could be eyeing an R-rating for is next year’s Wolverine 3. While Hugh Jackman has discussed the possibility of an R-rating in interviews before, the rumor gained more traction this weekend when a pamphlet reportedly coming from 20th Century Fox made the rounds at Toy Fair in New York that showed an “anticipated rating of ‘R’” for the upcoming feature. Again, this isn’t an official confirmation, but it seems like Fox could be more open to the idea of an R-rated Wolverine movie thanks to the success of Deadpool. While so far it’s only Fox that seems to be considering more adult content for their superhero movies, we could see other studios soon following suit. While Disney is saving their more violent Marvel heroes for the small screen, we could potentially see Warner Bros looking to give us more adult oriented DC characters, though something tells us Batman will likely be off-limits. While many in Hollywood will be looking to emulate Deadpool’s success and thinking an R-rating is the key, Guardians of the Galaxy writer/director James Gunn took to Facebook warning of what’s to come explaining that after the success of Guardians Hollywood started trying to market movies to be “like Guardians” by using pop songs and quips in the trailers. Gunn went on to say quote, “over the next few months…you’ll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool. They’ll be green lighting films ‘like Deadpool’ – but, by that, they won’t mean ‘good and original’ but ‘a raunchy superhero film’ or ‘it breaks the fourth wall.’ They’ll treat you like you’re stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn’t do.” Needless to say, Deadpool’s success will definitely have an impact on future superhero movies, whether good or bad, but what do you think? Do you want to see films like Wolverine 3 and X-Force get R-ratings and are there any DC characters you think could benefit from a more adult approach? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to check out some less successful, but no less hardcore comic book movies that have come before. I’m INSERT NAME, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
