That's Right. If you've ever dreamed about running around the back alleys and dungeons of quake, or unreal tournament in virtual space, than Gun Raiders is here to scratch that itch.
Gun Raiders checks nearly every box on the fun VR game list. Infinite ammo? You got that, climbing walls? You got that. Player skins, gun skins, battle pass, katanas, and jet packs.
Its like the developer focus grouped a bunch of 9 year old's and just gave them what ever they wanted in a game. Jet packing up and dashing around corners is extremely fun. Couple that with the fact that I can spread my arms and glide over greater distances. Like the majestic fly squirrel. What more can you ask for? Well, a lot actually. Although the gun play is fun, and has the added bonus of accuracy when you two hand a weapon. Accuracy is hardly a consideration when you're jet pack gliding around a tower one handing a feather light sniper rifle. The sights on any gun are nearly unusable. Aiming is best done by watching the bullet trails and adjusting as you unload every round dialing in your “accuracy”
This isn't Pavlov, its not CS:GO or Valorent, so toss any expectation of realism right out the window.
Just like the arena shooter games that came before it Gun Raiders doesn't have a class system. It just has 10 guns to choose from. Unlike the arena shooters that came before it you spawn with all those guns, and their ammo. So at any time you can switch from sneaking around corners with a close quarters SMG to hiding out in the far reaches of the map with a sniper rifle.
Speaking of the maps there are 9 of them each varying in size height, and game mode. The game modes are locked to the map so you won't be playing assault on sky train anytime soon. There are 4 game modes to choose from.
Assault is a team based game mode, you must raid the enemies base to earn points.
Control sees 2 teams face off to capture and control the point
free for all is.... a free for all
and the good ol' tried and true team death match rounds out the list.
In addition to the 4 game modes there's also a hardcore mode. Hardcore mode limits your ammo capacity, and removes player shields making things.... more hardcore.
Now what game these days wouldn't be complete without a battle pass? Gun Raiders battle pass with only $7.99, a great deal when you consider the game is free. The battle pass works like any other battle pass. You buy the right to unlock skins as you play, to speed up your XP earnings you can also complete some daily and weekly challenges. Now if playing for skins isn't your thing you can also buy in game currency which can then be used to buy skins, or you can just buy you way further up the tier list like a politician.
Gun raiders is a fast paced and exciting arena shooter that's perfect for a 10 minute session. Or to spend hours with friends trying to make one of those funny highlight reels you see on the youtubes sometimes. I experienced no noticeable lag or glitches in my play time although the developers road map does list “Performance Improvements” as something they are currently working on. Future updates will include more maps, some skins, more game modes, more weapons, even more skins and some skins.
Gun Raiders is being developed by Gun Raiders Entertainment and is available exclusively on the Oculus store for free. I'm certain there's something I didn't cover so if you wanna see that check out the comment section cause there's usually someone there pointing out my short comings.
So if you like spending time mindlessly firing at other players not worrying about flick shots, or special abilities. Or if you're new to VR and you aren't ready to invest in a bunch of expensive titles. Than maybe Gun Raiders is the game for.
