Ever wondered what quake would be like If it had cars?... or what rocket league would be like if it had.... quake?
Well wonder no longer and bare witness to shockrods, by the people who brought you Carmageddon, Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse now, Carmageddon for iOS and Android, Carmageddon: ReinCARnation, Carmageddon: max Damage, Carmageddon Crashers, and, Scrabble
Shockrods is a fast paced action packed arena shooter set to release in the summer of 2019, as of the closed beta it has 3 game modes, Capture the flag, death match, and ball mode.
Ball mode is a fun an innovative new take on arena shooters where your team must score points by securing the ball in the opposing teams goal... this sounds familiar... NO WAIT its different... cause theres guns!!
annihilate the opposition with rockets to prevent them from scoring. But be careful cause you can't fire your weapons while carrying the ball, you can however pass it
Shockrods reinvigorates the dated and dull game modes of capture the flag and deathmatch with interesting map layouts and game mechanics like this one that attaches a balloon to your enemy forcing them to levitate in place unable to escape to safety.
You can customize your car with patterns and paint jobs, as well as unique taunts, tires and boost trails. Though disabled during the closed beta testing there are tabs for “dress-up” and “decals” suggesting further customization or possibly special skins acquired through, challenges
During the beta phase there were a small handful of available challenges that earned in game currency, thought there didnt appear to be any use for it at the time, I can however assume there will be some sort of season pass planed in the future
Shockrods is colorful, fast, graphically beautiful and …. over done, Honestly the only thing that differentiates Shockrods from other vehicle based arena shooters is the fact that its new, with a modern engine and modern graphics.
In a world over run with Battle Royale and team based E-sport hero titles, arena shooters of yesteryear like quake and unreal tournament are seeing an ever shrinking player base. That doesn't mean shockrods is a bad game, I enjoyed the time I spent playing it and I look forward to its full release, but I worry about its longevity and player counts, its fun, just not with bots
So if you like rocket league but you feel like its missing high powered weaponry, than maybe Carmageddon, Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse now, Carmageddon for iOS and Android, Carmageddon: ReinCARnation, Carmageddon: max Damage, Carmageddon Crashers, The Twisted metal francise and Shockrods... are the games for you
