Gungnir / グングニル - PSP - Intro & Story gameplay with first two battles [HD 1080p]
Episode IX in the Dept. Heaven series, which seems to follow the Ogre Battle rule of just adding a random number next to each instalment in the series and leaves the fans wondering as to what's going on. Gungnir is a turn based tactical RPG much like Shining Force and Fire Emblem. However it has a few twists along the way first off battles have a time limit and must be finished before time runs out. Secondly you can capture points along the map to make your team stronger, thirdly you can also use units when it isn't their turn either, at the cost of them losing some health. Height rules also apply so you can't drop of the sheer side of a cliff and not expect to take damage. On the whole Gungnir has some rather nice new ideas in places to keep the format fresh than other titles in the genre. Of course it's not perfect the ranking system for each battle means you have to rush the objective if you want a three star score, which takes the fun out of battles at times. Also the treasure system linked to it is rather weak as chests takes ages to open (as seen in the video on battle two) and work against the time limit rule. It's a good game that looks and sounds wonderful with some enjoyable new gameplay ideas for the genre, but not all of them work. The moral choice system is also basic at best, in short for the good ending made “good” choices for the bad ending make “evil” choices. It's a little too black and white as shown with the choice at the end of the first battle.
Gungnir only runs at 30fps on PSP. Video is captured with the Install Data feature active to reduce loading times.
