Half-L.A.I.F. 2 - Chapter 8 - Sandtraps
Half-Life 2 - Looking around is forbidden
My attempt at playing through the entire HL2 series without ever looking around using the mouse or whatever input methods you could think of.
This is a segmented run, not aiming for speed, but merely to get through. Each video starts where the last one left off. If you see any weird cuts, it's because of Source's save stutter. Similarly, some graphical errors occur due to reloading saves.

Another chapter I entered with the mindset of "this will be impossible". And look who found a solution anyway! :)
Like usual, we start with save deletion to get the car back.
Instead of dealing with the lighthouse dropships and gunship like usual, we can just skip it.
Running into that cliff face which has just the right angle, we can slowly glide up until we reach the top.
The angle of 89 will stick with us for quite some time, so it's important we set it here.
I walk back into the cave to trigger the level change.
I did a grenade jump onto a cliff simply to skip some combat - it isn't truly necessary, but we had the resources to do it.
The last map is probably the most interesting one, as I almost gave up on it.
And you probably have a lot of questions watching that part of the run.
The game spawns a gunship when entering the prison yard. This gunship spawns a second gunship when damaged. Both gunships need to be killed to proceed.
Why "need"? Because they blow open a hole in the wall which lets us move on to the next map.
So how do we get past it without being able to take down the gunships?
We need a chair and a lot of explosives...
The chair is the only small physics object in the entire map which is indestructible. Both of these criteria are important to us.
Using two explosive barrels, we catapult the chair onto a certain part of the map's roof.
This was a pretty precise launch which took many tries and some readjusting of the setup.
After we got our chair up there, it's time for us to get up there.
A lot of invisible walls secure the rooftops, too many to simply jump straight up.
I first jump onto the lowest invisible wall that is nearby, using an explosive jump and a grenade.
Two explosive barrels would kill us, and a grenade (or just one explosive barrel) aren't getting us high enough.
Once up there, we use another grenade to get us onto the rooftops. Luckily, we had enough armor to survive this jump.
Now all that was left to do is to take the chair and do a prop clip.
This basically is a technique where you get yourself stuck in a physics object, save load the game, which warps you downwards a bit, leaving you out of bounds.
Further saving and loading moves you further down, until you're back in bounds again.
In our case, this leaves us right where we wanted to be: at the end of the map!
