Chapter Information: Returning to the City 17 streets, Gordon discovers that Barney is trapped in a Zombie infested building patrolled by Combine Snipers. Working with other Resistance members, Gordon infiltrates the building and rescues Barney.
Barney then explains to Gordon that an old government political center is being used by the Combine near the Citadel and that a major Resistance assault is planned for the building. Working with Barney, Gordon leads a Resistance squad to infiltrate the building and disable the defenses inside.
Inside the Overwatch Nexus, the Combine Soldiers attempt to prevent Gordon and his squad from disabling the defenses, but end up failing to prevent this objective from being completed.
As Barney sends Gordon out to lead the Resistance members outside to fight, The Combine deploys Striders, Gunships, and heavy Combine Soldier forces to fight against the massive army of Resistance members which use rocket launchers and heavy weaponry to take down the Striders.
By the time Gordon arrives in the square, the massive area has been reduced to rubble as intense street fighting rips the area apart. After eventually taking down the Striders in the square, Gordon narrowly avoids another Strider inside an old building before arriving near the base of the Citadel.
As Striders demolish the massive blocks around the base of the superstructure, Gordon faces intense firefights through ruined buildings as Combine Elites, Combine Soldiers, and Striders fight Resistance members. After taking down the last of the Striders, Gordon navigates his way across the top of the ruined car park and reunites with Barney and Dog.
Sensing Alyx inside the Citadel, Dog damages a Combine Crusher wall allowing Gordon to enter a ruined manhole that leads directly to the very base of the Citadel superstructure.
