"Life Size Moon!"
"Lunch Time Boom!"
"Nice Guy Doom!"

I think those three phrases, in an attempt to try to understand what he's saying at the beginning, is the best way to sum up this game. I had never heard of this title until today, but I knew as soon I started playing it, I wanted an ending. No overly complex story, obtuse puzzles, battle systems, or tacked on extras here, just good old-fashioned Japanese platformer at its best.
These are probably my favorite genre for the Gameboy. Japanese games, barely translated and localized, given some shitty American box art, then pushed out to the masses....well, the thirty-two odd kids masses who knew about Japanese platformers to begin with.
This game has all the things to make it a hit in my book, Steady, upbeat, and somewhat catchy music. The type that makes you bob your head unconsciously and never really grates on your ears. Big detailed graphics that really push the Gameboy processor while keeping the line art clean and unclouded by complexity...(looking at you, American movie games... ) and tight responsive controls. I knew after playing one stage, that this was going to be a hit for me.
The story is one of important note, because it defaults to the standard girlfriend theft racket that video game antagonists have in their union contracts for some reason. You play as Harry, who hammers for a living. While walking one day with his girl, some jerk ghost up and takes her away. Clearly this ghost had never heard that Harry was in the business of hammering cause if he had, that ghost would have kidnapped the girl from the next couple over. A young couple just in love...the young man's first real girl away from his dakimakura love pillow, he was a shy young man...and this was his first chance to feel like a man....
but no, that ghost had to go and steal Harry's girl...cause he hammers.
There may be something about a Ghost Breeding Company in there, I'm not sure.
Now as far as stages go, they range from walk in the park to very hard, but never impossible. The game is never one to make you rip your hair out in frustration, or break your controller, or make you cry and wish the pain away, but it's still a challenge.
If there is one thing that will keep you playing is the awesome voice fx. Not voice overs, but voice FX...effects...as as in, Irem had the stones to try to emulate voice on a one PCM, 4-bit wave sampling system. That is bold. Most of it can be understood, though. When you die, you clearly shout OUCH!, and once you rescue Girlfriend, she clearly says HARRY HI, but the voice at the beginning of each life, still has me wondering....

"Life Like Broooom!"
"Light Bright Groom!"
"Rice Rice Goon!"
