Handheld Fighting Games of 89/94 - Master Karateka
Master Karateka is a side-view martial arts action game released for the Game Boy on December 28, 1989. Developed by Tose Co., Ltd. and published by Shinsei Kōgyō Ltd., the game is an enhanced port of the original Karateka first released in 1984. Players take on the role of a skilled karate master and the last survivor of their village. With nothing left to lose, they embark on a mission to defeat the sinister Akuma, vanquish his army of henchmen, and rescue their beloved Mariko.
This version reimagines the original Karateka by featuring redesigned graphics tailored for the Game Boy's smaller screen and introducing new enemies and challenges. Players scroll through multiple levels, engaging in combat against Akuma's minions with a variety of punches and kicks, which can be adjusted in height using directional controls.
