Heroes of the Storm-Malthael first look and discussion
0Greetings everybody! Today we're going to take a look at the newest character to hit Heroes of the Storm-Malthael. In this video, I go over the skins, abilities and possible talent builds that will work for him.
Malth seems to be a fairly capable assassin. He's one of the first assassins to be released in awhile that doesn't feel squishy. With people like Chromie, Lunara and Genji out there, it's nice to have somebody a little more beefy again. Malthael's strengths are based around his mark that he places on people. He can do this by auto attacking or by sending out his souls via 1 heroic or his death shroud. Death shroud is one slow moving skill shot that requires surprise, CC or tight quarters where it is hard to dodge. Once the mark is on somebody, he can use soul rip to do damage and heal himself or wraith strike to teleport behind that person. Strike is not only a good chase ability but it is also good for getting out of trouble or body blocking somebody's retreat. Soul rip is his bread and butter with many talents that augment it like a slow for people who get hit with it. Malth seems to have 2 possible style builds. One is to let Malth be exactly what you'd expect. Put out lots of marks, get lots of soul rip damage and healing. There is another build buried in his talents that is more single target focused and actually penalizes you if his mark is on more than one person. This build might be good if he will not be displaced from his target or potentially on B of E where he can punish an immortal for huge damage.
In my limited matches of seeing Malth, I was not impressed or disappointed in what I saw. I did not have major issues fighting vs one nor did I find him super easy to kill. I will know more once I actually play him and can form a more direct opinion.
