A quick demonstration w/ subtitles on how to access the hidden options for Streets of Rage 2 for the SEGA Master System. Namely the Level Select and No Damage options accessed by a simple code. The Level Select cheat can also be done on the SEGA Game Gear, which is essentially a port with minor differences. The method however is slightly different then shown here.

Here's how to access the hidden options. Go to Options, set the difficulty level to easy, the number of extra lives to 1, the background the music to 2, and the sound effects to 3. Highlight the difficulty, and press the 1 and 2 buttons together. If done correctly, the two options should appear. You can now select any of six levels in the game, and disable the ability to take any damage.

Feel free to enjoy some brief gameplay footage of the final stage of Streets of Rage 2. Your character will still register hits from enemy attacks and hazards, but will not lose any health.
