High school students from the Hata region of Kochi Prefecture, dedicated to light music and dance, gathered together to showcase the fruits of their practice. Bands from outside the Hata region that had won awards at the prefecture's high school band competition, the "Light Music Festival," were also invited, providing a valuable opportunity for networking.
High school students from the Hata region dedicated to light music and dance have fewer opportunities to perform than those from schools around Kochi City. To address this issue, Shimanto City held the first-ever "K-ON Dance Festival Shimanto" to provide a forum for high school students to showcase the fruits of their daily practice, improve their skills, and network with others.
Before the live performance began, a lecture was given on how to liven up the atmosphere, including clapping, to enhance the enjoyment.
When the chorus began, pump your fists and unleash your rock spirit with a 'Oi, Oi, Oi'!
A total of 17 groups from 11 schools, both from the Hata region and outside the region, were invited to perform cover songs, original songs, and dance on stage.
(Participant from Shimizu High School)
"It was fun. It was fun interacting with people from all over Kochi Prefecture and listening to performances. I also made some new discoveries, so I think it was a really great event."
(Participant from Ohata High School)
"I'm really grateful to the organizers."
(Participant from Sukumo High School)
"(Light music) is something I love so much that I even put my studies aside. It's something I want to do for the rest of my life."
The Nakamura High School dance club also performed to the rhythm, showing off the results of their hard work.
Shimanto City, which organized the event, is considering continuing to hold it in the future, hoping to revitalize the region and make it more attractive to young people through the event.
