In an effort to deepen exchanges with overseas zoos, Kochi Prefectural Noichi Zoo has welcomed a trainee from Taiwan. This marks the first time that Noichi Zoo has accepted an overseas trainee.
On the 16th, three staff members from Taipei Zoo in Taiwan, said to be the largest zoo in Asia, were welcomed by Noichi Zoo staff at Kochi Ryoma Airport.
The decision to accept the trainee came after Noichi Zoo and Taipei Zoo signed a friendship agreement in July with the aim of promoting staff exchanges and improving animal husbandry techniques. This marks the first time that Noichi Zoo has accepted an overseas trainee.
The three will learn how to care for animals not found in Taiwanese zoos.

"Noichi Zoo will have shoebills, which don't exist in Taiwan, so I'd like to learn how they're cared for here and consider whether we can raise them in Taiwan."
(Noichi Zoo Director Yusuke Honda)
"It's not something we can put to immediate use, but I hope this will be an opportunity to deepen our mutual exchange. I think it's important for us to first meet and build a friendly relationship."
The training will run until August 31st.
