In some ways, Hitman: Absolution reminds me of an interactive movie. After all, your character is introduced into a living environment in which plenty of complex scripted events ("scenes") play out without having to be initiatied by the player directly; but which can nonetheless be influenced (primarily interrupted in various ways) by the actions you take. A lot of games offer similar opportunities to eavesdrop on enemies and experience NPC interactions without necessarily taking part in them, but few titles do this with the regularity and ambition of Hitman: Absolution. The scene has been carefully set by the developers, and there's plenty of drama and tension which does not have anything to do with that creepy bald guy who just so happens to be sneaking around in the shadows. Replaying the same level in its entirety will admittedly often reveal that a lot of scenes were in fact triggered by the player him- or herself in the traditional sense (i.e. by simply walking into a specific room), but much of the game's storytelling - especially the really hilarious stuff - can be missed by simply not being in the right place at the right time.
