There are a lot of rhythm and fitness games available in VR and the majority seem to go for the boxing style as a way to burn the most calories.
Hitstream utilises a mixture of styles of body movement and punching to help provide a workout to keep you moving. The arena is a full 360 degrees with a picturesque backdrop. during each routine you can follow the simple punch and block moves into step movements avoiding barriers, following chains of glowing orbs with your hand or make head movement to ensure it is inside of the approaching rings. when all of these are linked together you really do begin to feel as if you are taking part in a workout.
Visually everything is very clear, the backdrops are static images, but you are surrounded by a number of gates, from which the wave patterns approach you. As with most fitness games it is not only about timing, but also the force that you use to complete each movement, this means you can put in as much effort as you feel comfortable with.
One of the issues i have with the fitness experiences, especially ones that require you to punch in time, is knowing exactly when to throw your punch so that it lands perfectly, there is only a slight amount of feedback from each controller when hitting a target, no matter what strength you use, so it is purely down to the visual point scoring to assess how close you are to a perfect hit.
Music is also really important part of a successful rhythm / fitness game, there are not many music tracks included in Hitstream, but i am happy to say that those are available certainly fit the genre and compliment the exercising perfectly.
This is another nice addition to the fitness genre and if you are looking to add a cardio workout to your regular fitness program, try this on the harder settings.
