How big is the solar system? I Sci Guide with Martin Archer I Head Squeeze
Defining the size of the solar system isn't as easy as it sounds. We have the sun and all our planets, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Poor Pluto was kicked out of the planet club in 2006.
How can we define the edge of the solar system? Do we measure it by looking at the power and range of the sun? Do we measure by looking at the power and range of gravitational fields? Or do we measure it by looking at the light emitted by the sun?
Resident physicist Martin Archer talks us through all the possibilities.
