There were a number of candidates hotly tipped to succeed the 2006 Champions League final winning manager. From former player Michael Laudrup to future manager Ernesto Valverde as well as Manuel Pellegrini, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho.
Instead, Pep Guardiola was promoted from the ‘B’ team and helped create the one of the greatest club teams ever.
