How Robert Lewandowski almost played for Man Utd!
Manchester United’s record of signing centre forwards has been rotten since the inspired purchase of Robin van Persie in the final season of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Radamel Falcao flopped, Anthony Martial can’t decide if he plays out wide or central and has flopped, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was crucial for a time but unfortunately beset by a long-term injury.
Romelu Lukaku shone briefly but was quickly shuffled out of the plans of a new manager in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Solskjaer, who, snapped up Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s goals aside, neither truly lit Old Trafford alight.
However, back in 2014 they were on the market for a new centre forward and he went by the name of Robert Lewandowski. His contract was up but with United’s first season post-Sir Alex Ferguson ending up in catastrophe, Bayern Munich snapped up the Dortmund forward’s signature with little opposition.
Lewandowski has since gone onto become one of the world’s most prolific forwards. Meanwhile, United haven’t had a golden boot winner in a decade.
