How to Block Private Numbers on Android Phone Settings (Best Method)
0Method 1: Block Private Numbers Using the Phone App (General Android)
Most Android devices, including those using the Google Phone app (e.g., Pixel, Xiaomi, or devices with the app installed), have a built-in option to block private numbers.
Open the Phone App:
Launch the Phone app (phone receiver icon) from your home screen or app drawer.
Access Settings:
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
Select Settings - Blocked Numbers (or Block Numbers on some devices).
Enable Block Unknown Callers:
Toggle on Unknown or Block Calls from Unknown Numbers.
This blocks calls from private numbers (e.g., those with no caller ID or marked as “Private Number”).
Verify the Setting:
Calls from private numbers will be blocked and typically won’t ring or appear in your call log.
They may go to voicemail unless blocked by your carrier.
To disable, return to Blocked Numbers and toggle off the Unknown option.
Note: This setting only blocks calls with hidden caller IDs, not unsaved numbers with visible IDs. If you want to block all non-contact numbers, see Method 3.
Method 2: Block Private Numbers on Samsung Phones
Samsung Galaxy phones (e.g., S24, A54, Z Fold 6) offer a specific option to block private and unknown callers.
Open the Phone App:
Launch the Phone app from the home screen or app drawer.
Access Settings:
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner.
Select Settings - Block Numbers.
Enable Block Unknown/Private Numbers:
Toggle on Block Unknown/Private Numbers or Block Calls from Unknown Numbers.
This blocks calls from numbers with no caller ID (e.g., “Private Number” or “Unknown Caller”).
Optional: Enable Smart Call for Spam Protection:
Go to Settings - Caller ID and Spam Protection.
Toggle on Caller ID and Spam Protection and select Block All Spam and Scam Calls or Block High-Risk Spam Calls. This uses Samsung’s database to identify and block some private or spam calls.
Check Blocked Numbers:
In the Block Numbers menu, view the list of manually blocked numbers. Private numbers blocked via the toggle won’t appear here but are still blocked.
