Note: You are only allowed to change your Xbox gamertag once for free. After that you must pay to change your Xbox gamertag.
Follow the steps below to change Xbox gamertag on Xbox app:
1. Open the Xbox app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone.
2. Once the app is open select your Xbox gamerpic or profile picture in the bottom right of the Xbox app.
3. Select the gear in the top right of the app to open the settings.
4. Once in the settings, scroll down and select Help topics.
5. Select Manage your account & profile and then select How to change your Xbox gamertag.
6. Select Change your gamertag online and then select Sign in under section 1.
7. This will open the browser on your phone. Enter your desired gamertag in the new gamertag field. Then select Check availability.
8. If your desired gamertag is available you will be able to change your gamertag.
