About this video: Changing the seed on a Minecraft server is a great way to ensure that you get the world you want and continue to experience that world as your server expands and grows. With this video, we show you exactly how to get a new seed on a Minecraft server. We also quickly show you how to see the seed on a Minecraft server that you own/have permission to see the seed on.

First things first, let’s quickly go over how to find the seed on a Minecraft server. This can be done, if you have the permission to do so, by just running the /seed command. That’s it. Just run /seed on the server, and the seed will appear in chat. You can click to copy the seed and use it in singleplayer, other another server, etc.

From there, let's talk about adding a new seed to your Minecraft server. Keep in mind that in order to change the seed on your server, you will need to remove/delete your Minecraft server world. This will ensure that you have the correct seed from there start of your world.

To get started changing your Minecraft server seed, stop the server if it isn’t already stopped. Then, open your Minecraft server directory. This is the folder that houses all of your Minecraft server’s files including your server.jar.

In this folder, you will see a “world” folder. If you want to reset your world, delete the world folder. You can also just rename it to “world_old” if you plan to go back to the world in the future.

After that, open the server.properties file using a text editor. Then, find the “level-seed=” setting. This is where you will enter the seed you want to use on your Minecraft server. For example, if the seed you wanted to use was -90782345237, you will change the level-seed setting to level-seed=-90782345237 in order to make that your server’s seed.

From there, you will need to save the server.properties file and start your server. Your new Minecraft server seed will be active.

You can change the seed again, but we recommend deleting the world when you do. If you want a random seed on your server, just keep deleting the world with the “level-seed=” setting blank.

Nevertheless, you now know how to change the seed on your Minecraft server. If you have any questions about how to get a new seed on a Minecraft server, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.

Otherwise, if we did help you add a new seed to a Minecraft server, please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe if you haven’t already. Thanks in advance!
