About this video: Datapacks are one of the best ways to customize Minecraft without having to get additional mod loaders or add anything outside of the data packs to Minecraft.
There a hundreds of Minecraft 1.20.2 data packs, and this video will show you how to install any data pack that is Minecraft 1.20.2 compatible.
First, let’s go over how to download data packs in Minecraft 1.20.2. In the description above, that will take you to our list of Minecraft 1.20.2 datapacks. There are all kinds of different data packs for Minecraft 1.20.2. From data packs that focus on adding new structures to data packs that add in quality of life features like gravestones and anti-creeper griefing, pretty much any kind of Minecraft data pack is featured there.
Specifically, the Vanilla Tweaks datapacks for Minecraft 1.20.2 feature tons of different options. That is the data pack we will be using, but this will work for all Minecraft 1.20.2 data packs.
When you download a datapack, it will be a .zip file. This is the correct file type, however, you will occasionally need to unzip/extract some files in order to get the correct files. This usually happens when downloading multiple data packs.
Once you have things downloaded, we can move on to how to install data packs in Minecraft 1.20.2. To to this, open up Minecraft. Then, click on single player. Here, you will see all of your Minecraft single player world.
Click on the world you want to add data packs to, and click the “Edit” button. You will see a “Open Worlds Folder” button. Click this, and your worlds folder will open. Then, open the folder that has the same name as your single-player world did when it was originally created.
In this folder, you will have a “datapacks” folder. Open it, and drag-and-drop the data packs you want to install in 1.20.2 into this folder. It’s that easy to add data packs to Minecraft 1.20.2.
You aren’t complete finished yet though. You will still need to play the world you added the data packs to and run the /reload command. If you don’t have cheats enabled, you can pause the game and click “Open To LAN”. Make sure to enable cheats and open your world to LAN. Now, you can run /reload. When you do, your Minecraft 1.20.2 data packs will be enabled!
This will work with all Minecraft data packs that are updated and working in Minecraft 1.20.2. It is worth noting that there were some major data pack changes in 1.20.1/1.20.2 and data packs that were compatible with older versions of Minecraft may not longer be compatible.
