About this video: Playing modded Minecraft with your friends requires learning how to make a modded Minecraft server. Luckily, you have found our complete guide on how to make a Forge server in Minecraft meaning that you will be able to play any Minecraft Forge mods with your friends. This includes mods that add in biomes, tools, and even quality of life mods. Any Forge Minecraft mod that will work on a server can be added to the modded Minecraft server we show you how to create in this video.
First things first though, I do want to note that any mod you have installed on your server will also need to be installed locally by anyone who joins your server. Sadly, this is a limitation of modded Minecraft, so make sure that you keep track of any mods you use on the server so everyone who joins can download them.
Also, the server we make in this video is not a 24 hour server and requires a decent computer and internet connection. It also requires that you only allow people you trust join it due to it being hosted on your public IP. If you do want a server where you don’t have worry about any of this, you can using a hosting company like SimpleGameHosting.
Nevertheless, the first part of making a modded Minecraft server is downloading Forge. You can find a link in the description above to download Forge. Once you are there, click the Forge download button. Then, select the version of Forge you want on the download page. Click the “Download Installer” button to download Forge.
Now, create a “Modded Minecraft Server” folder on your desktop. Then, open the Forge installer you downloaded with Java. In the installer, click on “Install Server”. Click the three dots in the red box that appears. Navigate to and select the “Modded Minecraft Server” folder you created on your desktop. Then, click “Okay”. The modded Minecraft server files will now be downloaded into this folder.
Open the folder on your desktop, and you will see a “run.bat” file. Double-click this. It will try to start your server, but it will eventually fail.
A few files and folders will have been generated though. Specifically, the “eula.txt” file. Open this, and set eula=false to eula=true if you agree to the Minecraft EULA. Save the eula file, and double click the run.bat file again to start your modded Minecraft server.
At this point, you can join your server with the IP address “localhost”. If you want your friends to join your Minecraft server though, you will need to port forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. We go over in-depth how to do this in the video.
Once you port forward, your friends can join your modded Minecraft server using your public IP. They just need to have Forge and all the mods you install on the server installed locally as well.
To add mods to your server, make sure they are for the Minecraft Forge version that you installed on your server and just add them to the “mods” folder on the server. Make sure to let everyone who plays on your server they will need to add the mod as well. Restart your server, and the mod is installed!
With that being said, you now know exactly how to create a modded Minecraft server. If you have any questions about how to make a modded Minecraft server, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.
