About this video: When building a #GamingPC, everyone is always talking about the graphics card or the processor, but no one talks about the thing that literally links the entire PC together - the motherboard. So, I thought I would create a complete and in-depth guide on how to choose the #Motherboard for your gaming pc!
So what are the main things you need to look for when buying a motherboard for a gaming computer? Well, first off, you want to make sure that you get a motherboard that is compatible with the CPU you are looking to buy. This is actually pretty easy if you use a site like PCPartPicker, but if for some reason you aren't, typically the compatible CPUs will be listed in the description for every motherboard. Sometimes this will list all of the compatible CPUs individually, or it will give you the CPU generations it is compatible with - all 8th Gen Intel CPUs for example.
After you've got the correct motherboards you will need for your CPU, you need to decide how much RAM your motherboard needs to support. Your options here are basically 32GB or 64GB of RAM. In regards to your motherboard, this is a pretty easy choice. Budget motherboards will only support 32GB. If you're on a very tight budget this will be fine. We are a long time away from needing more than 32GB of RAM for gaming. If you are looking to do more than game though, such as stream to Twitch, I would go with a motherboard that can hold up to 64GB of RAM. This will give you more options and future expandability.
After you've got your CPU and RAM decided, we need to talk PCI and PCI-e expansion. Every motherboard for #Gaming needs to have at least two of these. One for you GPU and one just in case. If you are looking to use a lot of expansion cards though, say one for a capture card, wifi card, and sound card, you will need enough slots to accommodate those. Thus, before you pull the trigger on any motherboard make sure there are enough expansion slots for everything you plan to have.
From here, there is just one more thing we need to talk about specifically, and that is M.2 NVME storage. These drives can be great as they are super fast super nimble SSDs, but not every motherboard supports them. Make sure your does if you are going to use NVME storage. Otherwise, don't worry about it.
Now, I know from this point, we could go more in-depth, but here are the things that every motherboard should have these days, but you can check just to make sure. USB 3.0 support, at least 6 SATA ports for full storage expansion, the ability to power at least 2 case fans and your CPU fan, and last but not least some awesome LED lighting... Well, I guess you don't HAVE to have LEDs, but why not?
And that is everything you need to know when choosing the motherboard for your gaming PC. Did I miss something? If so, let me know in the comment section below! Also, be sure to give this video a thumbs up and be sure to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already. It really helps me out, and it means a ton to me. Thank you very, very much in advance!
