How to Connect Google TV Remote & Place into Pairing Mode (Best Method)
Connecting or re-pairing your Google TV remote is a straightforward process, and it's essential for using features like voice commands. The best method for both initial setup and troubleshooting a disconnected remote is to use a simple button combination.
Best Method: Placing the Remote in Pairing Mode
This method works for the standard Google TV remote that comes with devices like the Chromecast with Google TV.
Turn on your Google TV device. Ensure your device is powered on and connected to your TV, and that you're on the correct HDMI input.
Access the pairing screen. If your remote is not working at all, your TV screen should prompt you to "Start pairing" or a similar message. If you are already in the main menu and need to re-pair, navigate to Settings (the gear icon ⚙ ️ ) in the top-right corner, then go to Remotes & Accessories. Select Pair remote or accessory.
Place the remote in pairing mode. Simultaneously press and hold the Back button (⬅ ️ ) and the Home button (🏠 ) on your remote.
Wait for the remote to pair. Hold the buttons down for a few seconds. A light on the remote will begin to pulse, indicating that it is in pairing mode. The remote should then appear as a device on your TV screen.
Complete the connection. Use your remote (or another connected remote/the Google TV app on your phone) to select the remote you want to pair. A message will appear on your TV to confirm a successful connection.
