How to Connect USB Mouse & Keyboard on Steam Deck (Fast Tutorial)
To connect a USB mouse and keyboard to your Steam Deck, you can use the built-in USB-C port or the official Steam Deck Dock (or any USB-C hub). Here’s how to do it:
1. Using the Steam Deck Dock or USB-C Hub:
Connect the Dock/Hub: Plug your Steam Deck into the Dock or a compatible USB-C hub.
Plug in the USB Devices: Connect your USB mouse and keyboard to the available USB ports on the Dock or hub.
Power On: If the Dock or hub requires external power, make sure it’s connected to a power source.
Use the Devices: Once connected, your Steam Deck should automatically recognize the USB mouse and keyboard. You can use them in both Gaming Mode and Desktop Mode.
2. Direct Connection (Using a USB-C to USB-A Adapter):
Get an Adapter: If you don’t have a Dock or hub, you can use a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
Connect the Adapter: Plug the adapter into the Steam Deck’s USB-C port.
Attach the Mouse & Keyboard: Plug your USB mouse and keyboard into the adapter.
Use the Devices: Just like with the Dock, your Steam Deck should recognize the devices immediately.
3. Switching to Desktop Mode (Optional):
If you're connecting the mouse and keyboard for Desktop Mode, press and hold the power button on your Steam Deck.
Select Switch to Desktop from the menu that appears.
Once in Desktop Mode, your USB mouse and keyboard will allow you to navigate as you would on a standard PC.
4. Troubleshooting:
If your mouse or keyboard isn’t recognized, try unplugging and reconnecting them.
Ensure that your Dock, hub, or adapter is functioning properly.
