To connect a wireless Xbox controller to your Xbox One, follow these steps:

Turn on your Xbox One console.
Insert two new AA batteries into the controller.
Turn on your controller by pressing and holding the Xbox button until the controller turns on. The Xbox button will pulse, indicating it’s not yet connected to the console. If the Xbox button is lit solid, then the controller is already connected.

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
Select Profile & system - Settings - Devices & connections - Accessories.
Select Add device.

Choose the controller you want to connect from the list of available devices.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
