How To Correctly Identify Complex PTSD -Psychotherapy Crash Course
NOTE: *Some have written in to ask why I didn't explain CPTSD to be the result of not being able to escape a prolonged trauma like physical or sexual abuse. The reason I didn't focus on that element is because some people don't meet that criteria but still meet the criteria for CPTSD.
Trauma is still complex if, over developmental years, you experienced or even witnessed repeated trauma. There isn't enough diagnostic data to identify who meets criteria which is why it isn't fully recognized. But it's a label that may help clinicians identify those from convoluted backgrounds.
CPTSD may ALSO apply to:
-Refugees or immigration challenges https://www.bridgestorecovery.com/post-traumatic-stress-disorder/complex-ptsd-symptoms-behavior-and-treatment/amp/
-Veterans (multiple deployments) https://www.ptsd.va.gov/professional/treat/essentials/complex_ptsd.asp
-Ongoing trauma that is cumulative

-Trauma where the event occurred repeatedly https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd/complex/
*It's important to understand that ongoing trauma doesn't ALWAYS mean abuse. It can include other forms of repeated trauma.

In this video, I discuss complex PTSD and define its criteria. I separate and categorize components of the disorder and highlight symptoms.
"Trauma, especially early life trauma, is a risk factor for the development of both posttraumatic stress disorder and psychosis. The goal of the present study was to determine specific associations between exposure to childhood abuse, PTSD symptoms, and current psychotic disorder."
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5054510/.
"Post-traumatic stress disorder is defined as a mental disorder that arises from the experience of traumatic life events. Research has shown a high incidence of co-morbidity between post-traumatic stress disorder and psychosis."
