In this video, we will cover everything you need to know in order to get Iris Shaders for 1.21.1. That includes where to download the Iris Shaders mod, how to get shader packs, and finally, how to install Iris Shaders and start using shader packs with it. In the process Sodium will also be installed as Sodium is required for Iris Shaders and provides a huge performance boost.
First things first, we will need to download Iris Shaders for 1.21.1. There is a link in the description above that will take you to our in-depth text guide on getting Iris Shaders 1.21.1. On this page, click on the “Download Iris Shaders” button to go to the official Iris Shaders download page.
Here, you will see a “Download Universal Jar” button. Click that, and the Iris Installer will start downloading. You may need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.
It is worth noting that you will need Java 21 in order to get Iris Shaders if you don’t have it already. There is a link to download Java 21 for Iris in the description above that goes over everything you need to know about getting Java.

From there, you can download some shader packs. Shader packs are like texture packs, but instead of textures, they control the lighting and shading in Minecraft 1.21.1. However, this guide will work with any 1.21.1 shader packs.

Next, open up the Minecraft Launcher and play Minecraft using your Iris Shaders 1.21.1 & Sodium installations. Then, from the Minecraft main menu, select “Options” and “Video Settings”. Then, click on “Shader Packs” toward the top of your screen.
In the shader packs menu, click the “Open Shader Pack Folder” button. Then, drag-and-drop any 1.21.1 shader packs you want to install into the shaderpacks folder that opened. You will now see them in the Shader Packs menu. Click on the shader pack you want to use in the Shader Packs menu and click “Apply” in the bottom center. This will activate your shader packs.
You can edit your shader settings using the “Shader Pack Settings” button in the bottom right. This will let you customize tons of different things about your shader pack including changing to different performance profiles.
