We are using Iris Shaders to get 1.21.1 shaders. Meaning, we are getting shaders without OptiFine 1.21.1. This is good because OptiFine 1.21.1 doesn’t have shader support at the time this video is coming out.
To get started, we will need to download Iris Shaders. There is a link in the description above to download Iris Shaders for 1.21.1. That will take you to our complete text guide on how to use shaders in Minecraft 1.21.1. On this page, there will be a “Download Iris Shaders” button. Click this, and you will be taken to the official Iris Shaders download page.
On the shaders mod download page. click on the “Download Universal Jar” button. That will download the Iris Shaders installer for Minecraft 1.21.1.
With the installer downloaded, open it with Java 21. If you don’t have Java 21, there is a link in the description above to download it. In the Iris Installer, make sure version 1.21.1 is selected. Then, click the “Install” button. As long as Minecraft 1.21.1 has been played before and Minecraft and the Minecraft Launcher are closed, the install button will change to a “Completed” button indicating Minecraft 1.21.1 shaders has been installed!

However, just having the Iris Shaders mod installed with 1.21.1 won’t actually get you shaders. In order to play Minecraft 1.21.1 with shaders, you will need to download Minecraft shader packs. Even older shader packs will work a lot of the time.
Shader packs are usually downloaded from CurseForge or Modrinth, but occasionally, shaders will downloaded from a site managed by the shader pack creator.
With your shader packs downloaded and Minecraft open with the Iris Shaders installation, go to the “Options” and “Video Settings” menus. Then, at the top, you will have a “Shader Packs” button. Clicking this will open your shaders menu where you can manage your 1.21.1 shaders.
To install shader packs in Minecraft 1.21.1, just drag-and-drop the shader packs you downloaded into the shaders menu. When you do, they will appear in game. Click on a shader pack and click “Apply” and that shader pack will be active and working. You can change your shader settings using the “Shader Pack Settings” button in the bottom left of the shaders menu. This will allow you to customize your shader packs.
