To get started, we will need to go over how to download Fabric 1.21.1. Fabric is the mod loader that Fabric Mods actually use to work in Minecraft. In the description above, there is a link to download Fabric 1.21.1. That will actually take you to our complete guide on how to get Fabric 1.21.1. On this page, click the “Download Fabric” button to go to the official download page for the Fabric mod loader.
On this page, click the “Download Universal Jar” link, and the Fabric installer will start downloading. We can then move on to how to install Fabric 1.21.1 in Minecraft. To do this, open the Fabric Installer file you downloaded with Java. Once it is open, confirm the version, and click “Install” Fabric 1.21.1 will install in Minecraft.
The only reason Fabric may not install is if you have never played Minecraft 1.21.1 before or if Minecraft or the Minecraft Launcher are open. Make sure both of those are closed.
From here, Fabric 1.21.1 is installed, but we need to download some Fabric mods. You can get mods from Modrinth or CurseForge, but I do want to mention a mod everyone needs to get when using Fabric. That mod is the FabricAPI. This mod is linked in the description above, and is a library mod that is commonly used with the Fabric Mod loader and required by Fabric.
Depending on the mod, there may be other library/compatibility mods you need to downloaded. These can be found listed on the mod’s page in most cases.
With that being said, with your Fabric 1.21.1 mods downloaded and the Fabric Mod loader installed, you can open up the Minecraft Launcher, click on “Installations” at the top, and you will have a Fabric Installation. Hover over this and click the folder icon that appears. This will open your .minecraft folder.
In your .minecraft folder, you will have a “mods” folder. If not, just create one! To install your Fabric mods in Minecraft 1.21.1, drag-and-drop the mods you want to install into this mods folder. It is worth noting that all mods you install must be for the Fabric mod loader and for Minecraft version 1.21.1.
After you add your mods to the mods folder, you can go back to the Minecraft Launcher and play Minecraft using your Fabric installation. When you do, Minecraft will open up with your mods installed!
The mods will be active in singleplayer, and as long as any server-side mods are installed when joining a server, the mods will work in Minecraft 1.21.1 servers as well.
